Abstract:

Breathing New Life into Onshore Seismic Data with Advanced Bandwidth Extension

Marianne Rauch*, Umberto Barbato, John Castagna, and Alex Flick

This study demonstrates the effectiveness of a novel bandwidth extension technique applied to a Permian Basin 3D seismic dataset, achieving higher-resolution imaging and more geologically consistent inversion results. Using the Multiscale Fourier Transform for time-frequency analysis, the method captures local and global amplitude relationships without requiring wavelet extraction, well data, or starting models, makes it suitable for large scale seismic and depth-migrated datasets. The approach enhances data quality, supports more accurate landing zone selection and lateral drilling planning, and revitalizes older or more complex datasets for detailed interpretation and well planning, ultimately reducing drilling risks and improving production outcomes.
